Getting from the airport to town and exploring the city
From Newark (16 miles (26 kilometers) from Manhattan in New Jersey)
the Olympia Trails bus service, runs every 20 minutes between 06:15 and midnight.
This is probably the quickest as well as a fairly comfortable way to get into
Manhattan. There is a bus lane most of the way enabling a quicker journey. Taxis
from Newark are expensive because Newark is situated in the state of New Jersey
and passengers going into NY City are required to pay the round trip fare even
if only traveling one way. JFK located 15 miles (24 kilometers) from Manhattan
will cost about 40 USD by taxi.
Carey Transportation coaches leave every 20 minutes for Midtown
Manhattan, between 06:00 and midnight. Carey Transportation also operates bus
services from La Guardia airport every 30 minutes, between 06:45 and midnight.
Limousines can be arranged through hotels as well as at the airports themselves.
These limousines are more like small buses than the black stretch type. Within
New York the subway is a very economical method of getting around. However the
map and train system is quite different to other major cities. There are no line
numbers but rather they use letters and/or numbers for each train. That number
or letter which is also color coded will then follow a set route. Once acquainted
with, the subway is very reasonable at 1.50 USD for any length of trip with Metro
cards for multiple trips available at all stations.
